This project was the idea of Harlingen area citizens, veterans and the Gold Star families (Families of fallen soldiers), who noted that the community did not have its own Veterans monument.

As Harlingen has grown, so has the desire to honor our Veterans with a Veterans Memorial.  With Harlingen’s strong military heritage, the logical course was to pursue the construction of a local memorial.  The veterans created a key steering committee and the Harlingen area Veterans’ Memorial Project Committee was formed.

Dedication took place Sunday 11 November 2012. The program of events, photos and the newspaper article are on this website “Home Page".

On Flag Day, 14 June, the 13 star Betsy Ross flag is flown and the Branch Service flag is flown on the appropriate “birthdays”.

VMPC Memorial Pavers – It is important to bring awareness of our History to future generations.  Create a long lasting symbol to honor your Veteran or First Responder (Active Duty or Retired, living or deceased) for their dedication and sacrifice they have made for our country.  Thank them for their service and the freedom we all enjoy.

There is a special location for your loved ones in the section of your choice.  (Era: WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and the Middle East or the section for the Purple Heart recipient or POW/MIA).  There is a choice of several logos with an American Flag or Branch of Service.

Paver applications are available to the public and organizations that have supported Veterans and First Responders at the Harlingenveterans.com website and at the entrance on Morgan Blvd.  Paver bricks are made of the very highest quality, engraved by laser and guaranteed maintenance free indefinitely.
